Who We Are
OUR VISION
We exist to see a greater worship of Jesus through disciple making and church planting.
Our hope for every single person at Aletheia is that they would first know they are a part of God’s beloved family and that, as a result, they would live as family in order to bring others into God’s beloved family.
OUR BELIEFS
Our Core Beliefs (listed below) are what we hold to be the key doctrines that ground the Christian faith as they are found in the Scriptures. We expect all members of Aletheia to be in full agreement with these Core Beliefs.
Our full STATEMENT OF FAITH can be viewed here. There are a number of secondary beliefs contained in each of these sections that heavily influence and direct the culture and direction of our church. Complete agreement is not required for the sake of membership, but it should be known that we will preach, teach, lead, and counsel in accordance with these convictions.
ONE god,
three persons
We believe in one God eternally existing as one essence and three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, each of whom is fully God, yet there is one God. (Deut. 6:4, Gen. 1:1-2, John 1:1, 1:14, Acts 5:3-4, Matt. 28:18-20)
Bible
We believe that the sixty-six books of the Bible are the Word of God and the ultimate doctrinal authority on all matters. (2 Tim. 3:14-17, 2 Pet. 1:19-21, Heb. 4:12, Isa. 40:6-8)
god is creator
We believe that God created the world from nothing and rules, reigns, sustains, and governs all things at all times in all places. (Gen. 1:1, Deut. 10:14, Ps. 24:1, Ps. 89:11, Col. 1:17, Heb. 1:3)
IMAGO DEI
We believe that God has created human beings, male and female, in his image, and that all humans possess intrinsic worth, value, and dignity (Gen. 1:26-30, Gen. 9:6, Jas. 3:9)
SIN
We believe that Sin has fractured all things, leaving the world in desperate need for salvation and redemption. (Gen. 3, Rom. 3:9-20, 23, 5:12-14, Eph. 2:1-3)
Salvation by Grace alone, faith alone, Christ alone
We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. (Gal. 2:20, 1 Pet. 2:24-25, Eph. 2:4-9, 1 Cor. 15:1-6, 2 Cor. 5:14-21)
the church
We believe that the Church is comprised of those who have been born-again by God’s grace into the body of Christ, sent into the world to shine forth the glory of God and to declare and display the good news of the gospel. (1 Cor. 12:12-31, Matt. 28:18-20, 1 Peter 2:9-12, Acts 20:28, Eph. 2:11-22)
Christ’s Return
We believe that Jesus Christ is returning to the world to judge the living and the dead. (Acts 17:30-31, 2 Tim. 4:1, Rev. 20-21)
OUR CORE VALUES
WORSHIP
Deuteronomy 6:5 “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
We worship.
We all worship something; at Aletheia everything we do is informed by a worship of Jesus!
family
Acts 14:27 “And when they arrived and gathered the church together, they declared all that God had done with them...”
We are a family.
We are a family who worships Jesus and cares about each other, our community, and our world.
CARE
Isaiah 1:17 “Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause.”
We care.
We are a family who is cared for by Jesus and who, in turn, cares for those around us.
disciple making
Matthew 28:20 “Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded.”
We make disciples.
Disciples are made in the context of the local church, where we use the spiritual gifts God has given us to build up the church.
church planting
Acts 2:47 “Praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
We plant churches.
Church planting is the means of reaching lost people in the New Testament and we believe that today it remains the primary means of reaching the world.
what is a disciple?
A disciple is someone who is loved and saved by Jesus -- growing, sharing, caring, giving, and pointing others to Him.
What is the Gospel?
The Gospel is the good news that Jesus loves and saves sinners.
OUR HISTORY
In March of 2008, a team of 20 people living and serving Jesus in Harrisonburg, Virginia began to meet up and dream about what it would look like to start a new church so that more people could see a greater worship of Jesus. The desire was to become a multigenerational family who cares for one another and the community around them.
Exactly one year later, in March of 2009, that team arrived in Tampa, Florida, where Aletheia Church was birthed.
Jesus has been so faithful to us! We have grown from being a small, college-focused church to one that has been blessed to plant four churches in our first nine years. Throughout that time God has given us a clear Vision and Mission. One we desire to live out daily.
We are a beloved family who exists to see a greater worship of Jesus. Jesus is central to our worship. He is our aim in life! He is the reason why we are a family in the first place. Our hope for every single person at Aletheia is that they would first become a part of God’s beloved family and that, as a result, they would live as family in order to bring others into God’s beloved family.
Thank you for joining us today! I am excited for you to be a part of what God is doing in our family. Above everything else, please know that you are cared for-by us and of course by Christ.
welcome to the family!
OUR PASTORS
At Aletheia we believe in the biblical view of male elders (pastors) as outlined in places such as 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. In addition, we believe in the roles of both men and women in servant leadership positions (deacons) whether in order to minister to the church or aid in God’s work in this world.
